Data quality and completeness
Resting Places documents 2,443 cemeteries. This page reports, plainly, which facts are on record and which are honestly missing. As explained on About, a field with no licensed source is left blank rather than guessed or estimated, so the gaps below are a design choice, not an oversight. These are the same figures our build pipeline computes on every rebuild, not a marketing summary.

Photographs
1,909 candidate photographs from Wikimedia Commons were reviewed individually for license status. 1,891 passed (99.1%) and appear on their cemetery's page with full credit and a link back to the source file. 18 failed the check (GFDL, FAL, "Licence Ouverte", and similar licenses this site does not display under) and were left out; those pages ship text-forward rather than with an unlicensed image. A further 534 cemeteries had no Commons candidate at all to check.
Classification
Type and era tags are generated from each cemetery's Wikidata classification, heritage status, and founding date, not assigned by a human reviewer one by one, and About says so plainly. 1,294 of 2,443 cemeteries (53.0%) carry a type tag; the rest have source records that do not support one, so they stay untagged rather than being guessed at. 1,042 (42.7%) carry an era tag, which depends on the same established-year field above.
What's absent sitewide, and why
- Opening hours appear only on the 1,671 pages where a live source actually returned one, each with a real last-checked date and its source named (see Attribution). The other 772 cemeteries show no "Opening hours" section at all rather than a guess — most are genuinely open-access grounds with no formal published hours to find. Hours are the kind of fact that goes stale fast, so this site would rather show nothing than a number nobody has checked recently.
- Narrative history text is not written for any cemetery. At this scale, templated ~150-word histories read as thin, formulaic content rather than real editorial writing, so pages stay data-forward and link out to Wikipedia for narrative history instead. Real per-cemetery history writing is possible later, done editorially rather than generated in bulk.
- Visit photos and video from the public are not yet part of the record; cemetery pages mark the space reserved for that rather than leaving it unexplained.
Help close a gap
Every fact traces back to a source record, and the fastest way to fix or add one is at that source: correct or extend the item on Wikidata, and it flows into this site's next rebuild. Each cemetery page links its own Wikidata item under "Records and sources."
